Emulab services

We offer unique 3d printed solutions and a range of bespoke products, personally designed.

There are two distinct specialisms within Emulab.

We offer a bespoke engineering service where we can design and manufacture parts/components when off the shelf solutions are not available.

and

We offer a creative design service where we create and sell interesting products that form a distinct creature universe (Shroomiverse) that I have envisioned. These are often highly customisable.

We are also able to combine both aspects to create custom products designed to meet the clients needs and budget.

Our production facility is mainly geared for modern, multi material 3d printing with a fully tooled workshop that includes laser and vinyl cutting.

Why 3D printing?

3d printing has evolved - engineering filaments (the fuel for the 3d printer) often enhanced with carbon fibre or glass fibre provide exceptional properties and are able to replace traditional materials; even metals. 3d printing is relatively fast and low cost, without sacrificing tolerances as you would with production by hand.

What engineering services can we offer?

  • Unique problem solving - creating 3d printed products to provide an engineering solution.

  • I am able to reverse engineer and design replacement parts for machinery/vehicles etc. when other options are either unavailable or unaffordable.

  • 2d and 3d computer aided design facilities and expertise

  • The ability to design and create custom models based on clients needs.

At the heart of Emulab is the Bambu H2C flagship 3d printer and manufacturing hub. Capable of printing the most exotic of 3d printing materials such as PET - Carbon Fibre (see images), Polycarbonate, ASA, ABS and other fibre reinforced materials such as PLA, PETG and even Nylon.

Example project - reverse engineering and replacing a 1970's pillar drill, spring housing.

Additional highlights of our stock and facilities

  • Capability to print up to 9 colours at a time. This in particular is excellent at printing large batches of multi coloured toys with little to no waste material.

  • Stock of high quality filaments/materials (mainly Bambu lab) and this is always dried to give the best aesthetic and engineering properties (we have capacity for drying 15 filaments at a time if required).

  • Great variety of filament (material) colours and types including PLA, PETG high flow, TPU 68, 85,90 and 95 (flexible), ABS, Glass Fibre reinforced ABS, Carbon fibre reinforced PET, PETG and PLA, ASA, Polycarbonate, Glass Reinforced Nylon PA6, PLA silk, PLA Tough, PLA Sparkle, PLA Galaxy, Glow in the dark PLA, PLA Tough+, Translucent PLA/PETG and multi coloured PLA basic, matte and silk.

  • We also have small CNC vinyl and laser cutters with a stock of appropriate materials such as Iron on vinyl, reflective stickers. We also stock high quality woods such as bamboo, birch and walnut based plywood or opaque coloured acrylic sheets for laser cutting.

  • Large selection of project parts kept in stock for example, USB lighting, motors, electronic components etc.

  • Examples of products we typically make;

    • custom gifts

    • collectables

    • lighting

    • custom displays and advertising presentations

    • bespoke tool and accessory storage

    • cosplay parts

    • props/replica media items

    • toys (from basic to electronic)

    • prototype products

Who is behind Emulab?

Emulab is a small family business predominately run by me, a 46 year old nerd.

I have grown up with computers, building them and using them for design, gaming and productivity throughout my life.

I am a fully qualified mechanic and my specialism was Japanese sports cars. I worked on, imported, owned, sold and tuned many of the iconic Japanese cars of the 1990s and 2000s. I've been involved with solving engineering problems throughout my career and have even restored my own 1938 motorcycle.

I am a fully qualified teacher and have taught in secondary and further education with specialisms in teaching design and technology, engineering and vehicle technology for over 15 years.
